My name is Sameer S. Velankar. I joined the MSD group in EBI in March 2000 as a Database Developer.
After finishing my degree in Physics from the University of Pune, India I headed south to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (India) for my PhD in Biophysics.
I finished my PhD in 1997 in Protein Crystallography. I worked on proteins from Malarial parasite Plasmodium falciparum. After my PhD I moved to University of Oxford and joined Dr. Dale Wigley's group in Sir W. Dunn School of Pathology. In the last couple of years I worked on DNA binding proteins in general and on Helicases in particular. My work related to understanding the mechanism of helicases.
After spending six years in crystallography I wanted to explore new areas and grabbed the first opportunity to join the MSD group in EBI.
