Meetings and Events

This section lists some of the most worthwhile events in the bioinformatics and related fields. Of course this is just an editor's choice, and lists only a couple of them. For a more up-to-date and extensive list of events point your browser to the BioInformer Event Service.

Title

Structural Genomics: from Gene to Structure to Function

Organiser

Rob Russell and Evelyn Boyle, SmithKline Beecham

Date

20 to 22 September 2000

Venue

Robinson College, Cambridge , UK

Details

Structural Genomics promises to be one of the most important subjects in the post-genome sequencing era. The availability of completed genomes, in addition to recent advances in method for three-dimensional structure determination mean that structure data will be available for more proteins than ever before. As protein structure is central to almost all aspects of molecular biology and disease, Structural Genomics will have a great impact on the way we address biological problems.
This conference aims to discuss the major issues and developments related to Structural Genomics, including target selection, protein expression, functional genomics, structure determination and bioinformatics.

Title

German Conference on Bioinformatics (GCB2000)

Organiser

Erich Bornberg-Bauer, EML, Heidelberg

Date

5 to 7 October 2000

Venue

University of Heidelberg, Germany

Details

The conference is one of the oldest (established 1985) and most traditional conferences in the rapidly expanding field of Bioinformatics and Computational  Biology. The main focus of the conference is on current research in the theory and application of methods in that complement experimental research in the molecular biosciences. It seeks to expand its focus to various relevant aspects of computational biology such as theoretical biology, computational biochemistry, user-oriented representation and data-mining of biological data etc. This year the focus will be on the following subjects: Structures, Docking and Folding, Biopolymer and Genome Analysis, Molecular Evolution and Theoretical Biology, Computation of Biochemical Pathways, and Acquiring and Biological Data.

Title

Drug Discovery Informatics

Organiser

Center for Business Intelligence (CBI), USA

Date

16 to 17 October 2000

Venue

Adam's Mark Hotel, Philadelphia, PA, USA

Details

According to a May 1999 article in Applied Clinical Trials, "IT (information technology) could save pharmaceutical manufacturers millions of dollars by enabling drug development time to be slashed by as much as 25%." To achieve these goals, how can you generate computational data to integrate biological, chemical and clinical information to optimise drug discovery? How do you manipulate and visualise gene expression, sequence, proteomic and pharmacogenomic data to enhance drug discovery? How do you mine databases for novel concepts to track information flows and recognise early knowledge trends in drug discovery? This conferences will learn you how to integrate, visualise and manage data to accelerate drug discovery and development from large pharmaceutical companies.

IBC's Proteomics, Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics

Organiser

IBC USA Conferences, Inc. , USA

Date

16 to 19 October 2000

Venue

The Wigwam Resort, Litchfield Park, AZ, USA

Details

IBC announces Three Annual Symposiums in One Event! IBC's Proteomics: Rapid Target Identification & Validation symposium will be held on October 16-17, 2000. The Functional Genomics: From Genome to Function symposium will be held on October 16-17, 2000. New and existing functional genomics technologies will be examined as well as the challenge of integrating the myriad approaches from both a process engineering and corporate strategic partnering perspective. The Bioinformatics: Genome Analysis and Annotation symposium will take place on October 18-19, 2000. The aim of this conference is to show some of the latest research in the field of genome analysis and data integration.

PSB 2000 logo

Title

Pacific Symposium for Biocomputing (PSB-2001)

Organiser

PSB, ISCB et al.

Date

3 to 7 January 2001

Venue

Sheraton Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Details

PSB provides a forum for the presentation of work in databases, algorithms, interfaces, visualisation, and other computational methods, as applied to biological problems, with emphasis on applications in data-rich areas of molecular biology. PSB intends to attract a balanced combination of computer scientists and biologists, presenting significant original research, demonstrating computer systems, and facilitating formal and informal discussions on topics of importance to computational biology.
