I received my BA (yes, Bachelor of Arts) in Biology from Rice University in Houston, TX in 1997. I have no idea why they considered Biology an Art rather than a Science. Perhaps they could not decide which was closer to the truth. I double-majored in both Biology and Ancient Mediterranean Civilisations, and while both were enough for degrees in themselves, a student only receives a piece of paper for their "main" major. In September 1999 I completed my MSc in Biological Computation at the University of York. As you can see, this time it was considered a Science. However, choosing Science over Art is a much easier decision when "Computation" is in the title!
My job here at the EBI is my first job since my Master's degree. Now I am working as a SWISS-PROT Database Programmer, with an emphasis on TrEMBL redundancy. It is production-related work and involves reducing, and hopefully eliminating, full-length (and in some cases subfragment) sequence duplications within TrEMBL, TrEMBLnew and SWISS-PROT for each TrEMBL release.
