Title

6th Annual Biochip Technologies Conference

Organiser

IBC Conferences, USA

Date

2 to 5 November 1999

Venue

The Claremont Resort & Spa, Berkeley, CA, USA

Details

Completely sold out in 1997 and 1998, this new and improved event is well positioned to become the premier forum to serve the pharmaceutical and biotech community. Not only will this year's event continue to provide the most in-depth coverage and evaluation of the industry's most cutting-edge biochip developments, our extensive technical program will detail the many compelling applications of today's emerging microarray and lab chip technologies. This year's expanded agenda provides a thorough survey of the industry and will enable you to identify opportunities, assess the bottlenecks and fully understand the potential power and promise that is beginning to unfold in the biochip arena.

Title

Datamining in Bioinformatics '99 : towards in silico biology

Organiser

European Bioinformatics Institute, Hinxton, UK

Date

10 to 12 November 1999

Venue

Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, UK

Details

During the last few years bioinformatics has experienced new increasing data floods, both in terms of volumes and in terms of new databases and new types of data. We are now entering the post-genomic age, when in addition to complete genome sequences, we are learning about gene expression patterns and protein interactions on genomic scales. This poses new challenges, old ways of dealing with data item by item are no longer sustainable, and it is necessary to create new opportunities for finding biological knowledge in silico by data mining.
Data mining is defined as exploration and analysis by automatic and semi-automatic means, of large quantities of data in order to discover meaningful patterns and rules. The conference will bring together researchers interested in bioinformatics and in data mining, with an aim of generating new ideas and insights into how to meet the challenge from the data floods in molecular biology. We will cover data mining applications to molecular sequence and structure data, to gene expression and other high thru-put data, as well as to existing knowledge buried in large bodies of biological texts.

Title

7th Conference on Small Genomes

Organiser

Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN, USA

Date

13 to 17 November 1999

Venue

The Doubletree Hotel, Arlington, Virginia, USA

Details

This will be the seventh in a series of meetings on the sequence and function of small bacterial genomes. The conference is the continuation of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) conference series on Small Genomes, which originated in 1992 and was last held in Lake Arrowhead, California, in 1998.

Title

Computational Genomics Conference III

Organiser

TIGR, USA

Date

18 to 21 November 1999

Venue

Renaissance Harborplace Hotel, Baltimore, MD, USA

Details

The goal of this conference is to bring together practitioners of the science of computational genomics and to promote the further interaction between of the fields of computer science and molecular biology in support of genomics. The first two conferences in this series were highly successful, establishing Computational Genomics as one of the premier meetings in bioinformatics. This year's conference will once again bring together the leaders in cutting-edge areas of research.

PSB 2000 logo

Title

Pacific Symposium for Biocomputing (PSB-2000)

Organiser

PSB, ISCB et al.

Date

4 to 9 January 2000

Venue

Sheraton Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Details

PSB is a forum for the presentation of work in databases, algorithms, interfaces, visualisation, modelling and other computational methods, as applied to biological problems, with emphasis on applications in data-rich areas of molecular biology.
The PSB has been designed to be responsive to the need for critical mass in sub-disciplines within biocomputing. For that reason, it is the only meeting whose sessions are defined dynamically each year in response to specific proposals. PSB sessions are organised by leaders in the emerging areas, and targeted to provide a forum for publication and discussion of research in biocomputing's hot topics. In this way, PSB provides an early forum for serious examination of emerging methods and approaches in this rapidly changing field.
