The expression profile of randomly selected 250 genes
Distribution of the expression ratios of all the genes at the seven time-points.
In the following two figures the x axis (horizontal) shows time-points, the y axis (vertical) the logarithm of the ratios measurements at the given time point vs. the control measurement (see DeRisi et al.). The height of each glyph represents the number of genes in the respective bin. Glyphs are coloured according to the average of the ratio logarithm at time-point 7, red meaning an increase in the expression rate, while blue depicts a decrease. Note that on overall there is little change in the gene expression ratios during the first five time-points, while many genes increase or decrease their expression levels at time-points 6 and 7.
Average expression ratios during the seven time-points.
Although, as expected, not many changes are happening during the first 5 time-points, it is interesting to note that the average expression ratios (see below) are considerably lower during time-points 4 and 5. We do not have an obvious explanation for this, but it is important to keep this in mind when comparing expression ratios for various groups of genes at different time-points.
