Title

Second Annual Functional Genomics Conference

Organiser

Cambridge Healthtech Institute, USA

Date

16 and 17 November 1998

Venue

Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Details

The goal of the Functional Genomics initiative is to utilise high throughput biological techniques to study mechanisms that control gene regulation and expression, and to determine the function of expressed genes. A variety of strategies for functional determination will be covered, including the use of modifications of model organisms. The attempt to ascribe biological function in silico will be explored, along with developments in using the yeast 2-hybrid system to provide insight into function by probing protein-protein interactions. Genetic variation in the general population is being studied as it correlates to disease onset and progression. The use of this knowledge will enrich our understanding of molecular biology and will determine our ability to alter the course of the disease process.

Title

Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing '99 (PSB'99)

Organiser

UCSF Computer Graphics Laboratory, San Fransisco, California, USA

Date

4 to 9 January 1999

Venue

Sheraton Orchid Mauna Lani, Hawaii, USA

Details

The Pacific Symposium on Biocomputing (PSB '99) is an international, multidisciplinary conference for the presentation and discussion of current research in the theory and application of computational methods in problems of biological significance. PSB '99 will bring together top researchers from the US, the Asian Pacific nations and around the world to exchange research results and address open issues in all aspects of computational biology. PSB is a forum for the presentation of work in databases, algorithms, interfaces, visualisation, modeling and other computational methods, as applied to biological  problems, with emphasis on applications in data-rich areas of molecular biology.

4th European Conference on Theory and Mathematics in Biology and Medicine

Organiser

Netherlands Society for Theoretical Biology

Date

29 June to 3 July 1999

Venue

Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam

Details

This  conference has as its goal to stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematics and the biosciences and to act as the main forum for the exchange of recent research results and new research directions to the widest possible community in theoretical biology and medicine in Europe and beyond. This is the fourth official tri-annual congress of the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB). The meeting is unique in that it will also be the annual conference of the Society for Mathematical Biology (SMB, North America) for 1999. The conference will be organised by the Netherlands Society for Theoretical Biology, the oldest society for theoretical biology in the world.
Through these links, this will be the first World Congress devoted to one of the fastest growing domains in science where experimental biology and medicine, biochemistry, mathematics, computational science, physics and various fields of technology come together to attack many problems of great relevance to society.
