My name is Carola Kanz. I've joined the database applications group in June where I am programming at the C++ interface to the Oracle databases. After an industrial training as a system developer I've studied Bioinformatics at the Department of Computer Science of the University in Bielefeld from 1991 to 1997. During the academic year 1994/1995 I participated in the European exchange programme ERASMUS and studied at the Dublin City University. In my master's thesis I compared several methods which compare the secondary structure of RNA molecules. During and after my studies I worked at the University Library in Bielefeld where I developed an internet interface for a database in C and Perl. Beside this I have five years experience in COBOL (which was never my favourite programming language ;-)
