My name is Henning Hermjakob, I've joined the SWISS-PROT group at the EBI in September 1997. I'm mainly working in the production and maintenance of TREMBL. The latest project is the production of SPTR, a non-redundant composition of SWISS-PROT, TREMBL and TREMBLNEW.

In the years 1991 to 1996 I've studied Bioinformatics at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Bielefeld.

In the acedemic year 1994/1995 I studied at the University of Bordeaux in the framework of the European exchange programme ERASMUS. Here's the Report from Bordeaux on this fantastic year (only in German, sorry). While being in Bordeaux I also participated in the Internet-based GNA-VSNS Biocomputing Course.

In my master's thesis I developed the RIFLE system:a fast and reliable tool for the 16S rDNA-based identification of microorganisms without sequencing. The RIFLE system has been presented at the ISMB '97 conference in Halkidiki, Greece.

During the last year of my studies I also coordinated the project "Studienberatung Online".

After my diploma, I worked at the National Research Center for Biotechnology in Braunschweig, Germany in the group Molecular Bioinformatics of Gene Regulation.

In my freetime you'll most probably find my on my bicycle somewhere in the English contryside.

More detailed information is available on my personal home page.
