BIOINFORMATICS Journal

BIOINFORMATICS is the new name for the Computer Applications in the Biosciences (CABIOS) journal. The new name portrays the current scope of the journal, which will focus on its priority fields of computational molecular biology and genome bioinformatics, with emphasis on the documentation of new algorithms and the development of databases that manage complex biological information generated by genome projects.

The new name also heralds 'BIOINFORMATICS ONLINE' - the new electronic version of the journal and an important step forward. The online journal is part of the editors' intentions to make BIOINFORMATICS a useful and invaluable resource for molecular biologists, genomics and bioinformatics professionals in the field. The online service is available to all paper subscribers in both PDF and HTML formats and includes links to author's servers where the software/algorithms can be downloaded. The searchable database of contents and abstracts can still be accessed by non-subscribers and, by registering online, the latest table of contents can be received by e-mail.

As well as the name change and online journal, the editors - Chris Sander and Gary Stormo - are striving to rapidly publish, innovative, exciting, science that is part of the important advancements in bioinformatics. The appointment of many key people in the bioinformatics field as members of the editorial board will help achieve this quality. E-mail submissions and electronic review and submission forms allow a rapid publication time. BIOINFORMATICS will continue the traditions of CABIOS in publishing original papers, reviews and application notes, although new categories of papers are being introduced.
