Industry Affiliates Initiative: An Invitation The EBI has launched a new initiative of industry support in the field of bioinformatics. The Industry Affiliates Initiative is specifically designed to benefit small-to-medium enterprises in the biotechnology industry. For an annual subscription fee of £2500, the EBI helps affiliate partners recognise and adopt new technologies in bioinformatics and computational molecular biology. Affiliate partners may attend workshops, conferences and specialised courses offered by the EBI at preferencial rates, and can access premium web pages specifically designed for affiliate partners. The EBI held its first Industry Open Day in December '97 at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus. Prospective affiliate partners from 19 pharmaceutical, biotech and agrochemical industries attended from the UK and Europe. On Monday, 11 May, 1998, the EBI will hold another Industry Open Day. This event will provide a unique opportunity to visit the Genome Campus, learn more about the EBI's industry support activities, and assess the value of becoming an affiliate partner.
