Massive TIGR Database Releases

The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR) and Human Genome Sciences, Inc. (HGS) (NASDAQ: HGSI) signed an agreement on June 24 1997 to terminate an earlier contract between the research institute TIGR and the biotechnology company HGS. Terminating the earlier contract paved the way to release all the genomic data that was produced in the last five years into the public. Twelve different organisms and a total of 40 Mb of sequences are now freely available for download. Including in those twelve organisms are two complete genomes:  Helicobacter pylori (1.7 Mb) and Archaeoglobus fulgidus (2.2 Mb).
