ProClass 1.1 -- Protein Family Database
Introduction
The ProClass Protein Family Database is a non-redundant database organised according to family relationships as defined collectively by PIR superfamilies and ProSite patterns. The objectives are to facilitate protein family information retrieval, unveil domain and family relationships, and classify multi-domained proteins. This is achieved by combining global and motif sequence similarities into a single classification scheme. The current ProClass release consists of 91,319 sequence entries retrieved from PIR-international (Release 52.0, March 1997) and SwissProt (Release 34.0, November 1996) databases.
New features
Major new features of ProClass Release 1.1 are:
- Query program distribution: Newly available is the ProQuery program with which one can query ProClass database for record retrieval using various search keys. The program can be installed on UNIX machines for use in batch-mode or via WWW interface.
- New links: Hypertext links to PIR_ALN superfamily/domain multiple sequence alignments, PIR superfamily memberships, and ProDom protein domain database are provided in this release, in addition to links to SwissProt, ProSite and PIR databases.
- New family members: Also provided is a list of family members which were not cataloged in ProSite (Release 13.0) or PIR (Release 51.0) but identified by our
GeneFIND family identification system .
