ACNUC now incorporates SWISS-PROT/TREMBL

Introduction

ACNUC is a retrieval system for the nucleotide sequence databases GenBank or EMBL and for the protein sequence data base NBRF/PIR. Now, it is also possible to query a merging of the two protein collections SWISS-PROT and TREMBL with the sequence database management system ACNUC. Indexation with ACNUC makes possible the building of queries using many criteria to retrieve sequences. Criteria are based on mnemonics, accession numbers, keywords, taxonomic data, bibliographic references, dates of insertion in the bank, etc.

It is possible to distinguish SWISS-PROT sequences from TREMBL sequences using the `STATUS' criteria. Indeed SWISS-PROT entries   have a `STANDARD' status, while TREMBL entries have a `PRELIMINARY' status.

Availability

The ACNUC system together with the SWISS-PROT/TREMBL databases -- all files required for a local set -- can be downloaded at the anonymous ftp server of the University of Lyon. Interrogation of SWISS-PROT/TREMBL is also possible through the WWW-Query World Wide Web server at the same location.
