Previous Research

For the last 5 years I worked on my M.Sc. and Ph.D. thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Savakis (Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology/F.O.R.T.H., Heraklion, Crete, Greece). The work was mainly focused on the cloning and phylogenetic analysis of the alcohol dehydrogenase gene (Adh) in the family ofTephritidae. However, part of my Ph.D. thesis was the development of software for the needs of the "European Drosophila Genome Mapping Project".

Current Research

I joined the EBI on the January 1997. I am currently working, as a post-doctoral fellow at Prof. Ashburner's department, for the "European Drosophila Sequencing Project". The project aims to sequence the divisions 1-3 of the Chromosome X of the fruitfly Drosophilamelanogaster, in the next 3 years.
My contribution to the project consists of the bookeeping, analysis and annotation of the data.
